Bayou St. John

My aunt lives in Bayou St. John, which means it's been part of my New Orleans life since before I even moved here permanently. It's where I spent my first summer in the city, where my family stayed when they came to visit before I had a place of my own, and where I still spend real time, working from her porch, showing up for Jazz Fest weekend even when I'm not going to the fest. I know this neighborhood across seasons and years, not just as a destination.

The bayou at sunrise and sunset still stops me. City Park is minutes away. The walkable stretch here is genuinely one of the best in the city, and the homes range from grand center-hall cottages along the water to quieter raised cottages on the side streets.
